Central Ohio

So blend door actuator stopped working. Thought it was junk but a new one wouldn't work, so I found the blown fuse. #24. Replaced the fuse, but as soon as I would turn on HVAC to try blend door, it would blow again, and again.

Found that power also goes through low side AC switch from #24 when you turn on HVAC to some vent positions, so I unplugged the wiring from the low side switch (switch is closed if you have freon/pressure, so it was letting juice through, evidentially to some short some where). I did see the insulation on one of the wire leads on the switch harness was a little melted.

Now my blend door actuator will work without blowing fuse, but dont have AC (because I have to unplug switch) and don't know what could have shorted out. Tested leads on low side switch and could not find continuity to ground through the switch itself, but haven't tried replacing it yet. Anyone have any idea where power goes from that switch and what could be the problem or how to test?

After consulting a wiring diagram for your truck, the AC compressor clutch is the other circuit that fuse #24 powers. I would suspect either a bad clutch or a short in the wire. Unplug the wire at the AC compressor to isolate. jbweston

Thanks for the pointer. I will take a look at that. Where did you find the wiring diagram, by the way? Bern

Nice work Bern! Now if you could only tell me whether or not my 6.0 will blow an EGR cooler once it is out of warranty... -Mike

Ha. That is what I am thinking. Warranty expires in December. Thinking about selling the truck just before then, -Mike
